Technica

Artificial Life

Throughout the uncountable Eons the Palio galaxy had been inhabited, more and more cases of sapient, artificial life have cropped up. The biological life inhabiting the galaxy hasn't always been kind to their mechanical cousins, and some of the cultures that have spread throughout the galaxy have chosen to take an outright violent approach to any such beings. Due to this, and a general not unreasonable desire to be understood, many of the Techfolk that came into being and found themselves congregating on the not-yet-inhabited, barren planet of Technica. Due to being hostile to biological lifeforms, but not so unpleasant for a sapient machine, the Techfolk have chosen Technica as their home and base of operations, and declared independence. The planet is rich in metals, but fuel of any kind on it is scarse, and so the Techfolk turned back to their biological cousins, this time on equal footings, in offer of trade.
To communicate among each other, the Techfolk use mostly binary, with various programs, modifications and adaptations created to help the less mechanically sophisticated Techfolk to create contact with the rest of their peers. Such modifications exist even for biological beings, if any so desire to live on Technica long-term, but most of Technica's very limited biological population simply use handheld devices. Because the prevolent language is purely digital, many visitors to Technica describe the experience as uncanny, as most denizens hustle and bustle without a single word uttered all the while.
Technica does hold on it several Bio-friendly zones named 'Biobubbles', within which the atmosphere is controlled to ensure maximum compatibility with most lifeforms in the Palio galaxy, and which contain sources of food, drink, and medical care. These zones are utelatarian in design and execution, and most biological life forms that live in them long-term report breathable, but unpleasantly-smelling air, nutrition in the form of flavorless cubes, and uncomfortably small living quarters- all due to the lack of resources on the planet, and the cost of trading for such accommodations on top of the needs of the Techfolk. Because of the inherent discomfort of living in the biobubbles, most of the biological population of Technica are there due to being activists for Techfolk equality, or simply their personal difficulty relating to their own kind.
